Reinou S. Groen

MD, MIH, PhD, FACOG

Reinou S. Groen, MD, MIH, PhD, FACOG is an OBGYN the Alaska Native Medical Center in Anchorage. She was born in the Netherlands and studied medicine at the Groningen University. During her medical studies she worked in Ghana, Nigeria and Tanzania in clinical care and research projects. After her residency in The Nederlands she worked with Doctors without Borders in Niger, Congo DRC and with other organizations in Sierra Leone. She continued to be active in research and developed a population based survey to assess surgical needs in Low and Middle Income Countries, which led to her PhD in epidemiology, from the University of Amsterdam. Her OBGYN residency was done at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore where she still holds an affiliate assistant professor position. She is board certified by the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Dr Groen is now the outpatient medical director of the OBGYN department at Southcentral Foundation. She trained in obstetrics and gynecology at Johns Hopkins Hospital. In Dr. Groen’s role as an OB-GYN, she covers clinic, labor and delivery, and gynecological surgeries. Research and quality improvement continues with the focus on Postpartum Hemorrhage in her current job.

Alaska has been her home since 2016. Dr. Groen is married, has two children, and a household of rescued animals. Her hobbies include traveling, ice skating or biking, playing the harp, and reading.

Dr. Patricia Capo

Dr. Patricia (Tricia) Capo, MD, FACOG, is an ObGyn physician at Alaska Native Medical Center and Southcentral Foundation in Anchorage, Alaska. She graduated from Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine and completed her residency training at The Mayo Clinic and Greenville Hospital System in South Carolina. Tricia has an inherent passion for Indigenous women’s health. She is a member of the Minnesota Chippewa Tribe and grew up on the White Earth Reservation in northern Minnesota. As a physician and a patient in the IHS system she hopes to provide a unique perspective and strive for quality care for Indigenous people.
